Twinkle.. twinkle.. little star..( I wonder why I still hear it in my head? )...How could I forget those wonderful memories... Blindfolded human Jeeps!...Smileys falling from a Bottle!...and the record-breaking, award-winning, heart-stopping, picture-perfect poses of our NAG brothers!!! ... Several days may have already passed. ( several months, and years may still pass ), but every bit of memory from the last National Artists Guild GENERAL ASSEMBLY last August 3, 2009, remains so vivid and so fresh.. The thrill and the excitement in that event still lingers in my head. I sure am lucky to be there.
GAME 1
As soon as everybody was gathered at the Tala Gallery, Bro. Adam started by asking for the definition of the word "INSTRUCTION" and he did not fail to get immediate answers from his seated crowd. However, the first game started as a test to find out who really knows how to follow "INSTRUCTIONS"... At first there was silence.. everyone seems to be very serious... until suddenly, someone broke the silence by singing a heartfelt song.. " Twinkle twinkle little star...How I wonder what you are! ".. after this courageous act, the rest followed singing the same song. Others seem to be secretly kissing their test papers. ( there's no sense in denying since everything was caught on video.. hehe ) Then I heard a loud cry, "I KNOW HOW TO FOLLOW!!!"...but the best part is when almost everybody reached the last two items of the test.. the feelings of.. disgust.. regret..and embarrassment suddenly filled the gallery. ( I think somebody even threw his test paper away! While others just couldn't stop laughing at themselves.
Well, It's too late, before we realized that we only have to follow instructions in items number one and two. We knew the definition of the word "INSTRUCTION" but we never knew what it really meant ( sigh ). But to calm everybody down, Bro. Adam read a few verses from the Bible, just like what Bro. Eliseo Soriano and Kuya Daniel Razon do when they want to instill valuable lessons in us. They always get them straight from the Holy Scriptures. Here are the verses, 1 Samuel 15:1-24, but with emphasis on this verse:
"Samuel said, “Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.'' I Sam 15:22( NASB )
Right then, we all learned that we don't just need to follow instructions correctly but we should make sure that we follow the CORRECT instructions CORRECTLY.. (unfortunately, we had to learn it the hard ( but a very funny ) way ^^ .
GAME 2
The next game taught us to value leadership and to always give respect and to learn how to submit ourselves to those who are given the authority to lead. The attendees grouped themselves into three teams, each having a prophet, a king, and two participants to play "The Jeepney and the Jeepney-driver game". The driver would be in control of the blindfolded human jeep, and it's pretty obvious how difficult it was to navigate a blind-folded person using only the sense of touch. Painstakingly, the blind-folded human jeepney should follow the leader's command, avoiding obstacles until they reach their destination. However, during the last rounds of the game.. when the blindfolds were removed.. the jeeps suddenly ran much much faster! leaving the driver far behind!
Could you imagine a jeep running without a driver? It would definitely lead to a disaster. Same is true in real life situations, especially in fulfilling our tasks and duties. We have to recognize the Chain of Command. We should learn to submit ourselves to those in authority. We're so lucky to have leaders like Bro. Eliseo Soriano and Kuya Daniel Razon to reach closer to THE GOAL we should try to run as fast as we can, but we should NEVER leave them behind.
GAME 3
What is TEAMWORK? The answer to this question was revealed to us in the third game. Here's how it works:
Each group was given a bottle with a tube inside. The tube extends a few inches outside in order to support the Smiley ball. The team must put the ball on top of the bottle using a scotch tape roll, tied with 10 strings. The team must transfer the ball, by just holding one string per member. ..( It's quite complicated but you can take a good look at the pictures and you'll see what I mean. )
Creativity was very crucial in this game and it was a major factor why TEAM 1 ( my team ) came up with a very unique strategy... a " well-planned strategy..."Did our strategy work? ... Now that's a tough question.. Yes, it actually worked! We made everybody laugh! hehe...Despite our very entertaining feat, TEAM 2 won the game (sigh).
Still, lots of lessons were learned in this game. Timing was inevitable and each member should apply equal forces when pulling the strings. If anyone pulls his string harder than his teammates', the ball would fall. In reality, it's the same thing. Working with a team means that you work as one unit. Each may have his or her unique abilities but teamwork balances everything out. Success is attained when everybody works with a common frequency or a common faith to reach the goal. Obviously, it would be so hard for one person to lift a heavy load, but when that load is shared by more than two or three persons everything becomes a lot easier.
[Note: In other versions of the game, an egg was used. Once the egg drops, it breaks. So it means that there is no room for errors. The egg or the ball, may also symbolize our leaders. Putting the egg on the bottle, shows our responsibility to support their work in preaching the Gospel abroad.]
GAME 4
Here's the most surprising part of the event!!! The game was called..uhm.. I just realized. I don't know what the name of game was. hehe.. I think,I couldn't even remember who won the game..The only thing I can recall is that our NAG Brothers took the spotlight. Some turned themselves into mannequins and even used their bodies to spell words, Then there was a part when they had to strike a pose,,, On the count of 1..2..3.. POSE!!... How could I ever forget the awe, the amusement, and the surprise in the faces of everybody! 1...2...3.. POSE!! Cameras were flashing here and there!!! 1...2..3... POSE!!. It was just raw talent being exposed, a talent once "hidden throughout the ages" but was revealed to us in that momentous night!!
GAME 5
After all the fun and laughter, here comes a game that leans more on the artistic side because someone has to draw an exact copy of a given picture without looking at it. He can only get clues and descriptions from his teammates. The clues were limited to just four words per member, which made it really challenging. Preparation, trust and teamwork are the keys to win this game.
That night, I didn't even notice the passing time and how I wish we had more time to play some more games. The event was jam-packed with lots of fun and laughter together with lessons learned. In addition to the joy brought by the event, I also realized so many things. I was deeply humbled. There were so many lessons, that made me realize my mistakes and shortcomings. I realized the value of the things I often took for granted before, like teamwork, cooperation, camaraderie, etc. When I looked closely at Tay Rene as he received his gift together with warm birthday greeting from everybody, I couldn't help but notice his smile. His smile showed his deep appreciation. I also saw in his teary-eyes, that through the years he's always been very grateful to GOD in being a part of the Artists Guild. Without him saying a word I can tell how he really loves the group and his duty. During the last Thanksgiving, Bro. Mel Magdaraog emphasized that there is no other group in the world, like the Artists Guild. Just to be a part of this group is certainly, a GIFT from GOD. A gift, that we should value and always be thankful for.
I felt so lucky to have spent time in the company of these wonderful people. That night was a wonderful gift too. THANKS BE TO GOD!
We have countless reasons to be very grateful to the Greatest Artist and Creative Director who's always with us from sun up to sun down. Though we can't say and show you all things that happened for the past months, we're all on the edge of our seats eager to sing our hearts out in our next Artists Guild thanksgiving day to our Creator. Without Him, we cannot do anything…we can't even spell "good" without GOD.
As I thumb through my mobile phone's calendar, I scrolled down to the coming months. Well, the next quarter of the year is just a few winks away! Everyone just can't seem to wait for the International Thanksgiving to God of the Members Church of God International (MCGI) celebrated every quarter of the year. So tune up those jeeps, trucks including your flip-flops and join us in looking forward to our next ITG
saying, "AKO MAN AY PAROROON!" (I myself am going. - Zechariah 8:21 ESV)
September 19 2007, I was about to look around in all the 4 corners of Tintero Gallery at 5th Floor FSS Building Scout Tuazon Q.C, being amazed at the black/white and colored photos taken by Kuya Daniel Razon on his "In My Eyes" photo exhibit. The lens taken from his camera seemed like capturing some walks of life, nature, beautiful sceneries from his past travels journey in some areas throughout the globe. . Its shines up the beauty of the exhibition as it was held to support kamanggagawa foundation for sustenance of those less
fortunate people. A very perfect example on how artists can contribute on a world wide propagation. It may not require money, but with the talents, it will give a major contribution to do good unto others.
I just remember when a wise man said: the money is useless if it is not spent through good works...Suddenly, somebody stabbed me at the back saying, its already 12 mn... closing time... Oops, I need to pack up, still need to go to work the next day.
Just try to reminisce with me, with the photos I got, to keep you hooked!!!
The 12th year of International Youth Convention, where all youth in the church gather together to celebrate and to get in touch with Members Church of God International Ministers, Bro. Eli F. Soriano and Bro. Daniel S. Razon, was held after the international thanksgiving, last April 9 and 10, 2009. Most of the youths spent a week in Apalit to take part in this annual event. Youth as composed most in the Artists Guild, become part as one of the organizers in charged for the staging designs. Through God's help, AG got to put a lot of creativity and resourcefulness to come up with a simple, yet will leave a legacy for youth, let them aware how our presiding ministers put their great effort for global evangelization. As I take a look on a far distance from the stage, it showed the proof of the silhouette of Bro. Eli and Bro. Daniel for the Mission Propagation theme of the Youth Convention. Take a quick look and see..... And feel the pressure…
I was advised by my co-Guilder about 8 a.m. on a Sunday that I need to drive to get some things needed for this event. Got excited even if I'm late because it was the National Artists Guild's General Assembly. After the inauguration of the national officers, I've got the chance to know new faces and new extraordinary talented hands.
It was a whole day activity held at Frisco from 10am-6pm, last Feb. 17 2008. Comprised with orientation about departments in AG such as: Production dept, Graphics dept, where it incorporates editing and graphical designed in computers, Freehand dept. where pen and paper are needed for actual drawings. Another department is the Arts and crafts dept. where all of the actual piece from scratch to golds and all of its kind, is art. In addition, there are Art lessons such as skirting-taught by Bro.Joey Blanco; basic streamer lettering-taught by Bro.Rene Pabilonia; styrocutting lessons by Bro.Roy Urap and a team building activity spearheaded by Bro.Henry Cabrales with help from Bro.Jun Norte and evaluated by Bro.Vic Timario.
Here are the sneak peak photos to mention:
Unlucky for me, I didn't learn all of them in one day. Well looking on the brighter side of it, there is a gateway for learning... but it needs God's guidance, perseverance, and hard work. For talented hands just like the folks from AG, truly it's a gift no one should brag about. Thank God for these Christian Artists. It's a great opportunity to offer Thanksgiving to God, as we all practiced too before we the event ends.
All the glory and the honor should be given to our Almighty!
It was about less than a year preparation when Artists Guild , in association with contemporary artists of different expertise, joined together for a common mission of supporting the feeding program of the children in Baseco compound at Manila's Tondo District.. The Project "THE HANDS THAT FEED: Art Exhibit for a Cause" conceptualized by Kuya Daniel S. Razon was a 3-day artwork exhibit held last March 12-14, 2007 at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Manila.
It was tough that challenged the whole team to get the famous artists be involved on this major event despite of their differences on various styles of art. This project was in collab with UNTV 37. The event became the channel of reaching out these children through understanding the big role that arts can do for a society… The exhibition was enjoyed by various personalities… from artworks presented, to a calm Serenade orchestra and to on-the-spot painting sessions up to the hands that feed of less fortunate children. This is one of the concrete actions that could help alleviate the situation of our countrymen, and aggravating societal ills that affect our nation. The group believed that through small initiatives in utilizing our God-given talents, it could play a big role in pursuing an authentic economical and more importantly moral metamorphosis in our country.
Thanks be to God given the chance to make it a reality. At 3G , the 3rd year Anniversary Celebration of UNTV 37 the artists got the chance to see the children from Baseco compound at the World Trade Center, Pasay City, last July 22, 2007. Despite of all sleeplessness and exhaustion, seeing the children on their smiling faces is greatly worth an effort.
